JAMMU: With an aim to provide best transport service to the pilgrims visiting city of temples for annual Shri Amarnathji Yatra, 2013, an awareness cum implication programme for transporters including Mini Bus, Auto Rickshaw drivers and conductors was organized by Motor Vehicle Department (MVD), Jammu in collaboration with the Department of Hospitality & Tourism Management, Government Polytechnic College, Jammu at Maheshpura Chowk here today. RTO Jammu, Mr. Arvind Kotwal was the chief Guest on the occasion while ARTO, Jammu, Mr. Kuldeep Singh presided the function. The objective of organizing the programme was to sensitize the drivers about their role while providing service to the yatries and tourists with courtesy. Others present on the occasion were Deputy Transport Commissioner J&K, Mr. M.L Raina,, Health Officer, JMC, Dr. Vinod Sharma, Dy. SP Traffic, Naseem Akhter, Chief Inspector Board of Inspection, Mr. Jugal Sharma, Motor Vehicle Inspectors, Chairman Jammu Partayan Vikas Mandal, Mr. Ravi Mahajan, Chairman Minibus Workers Union, Mr Anil Chopra and Mr. Kuljeet Kumar of Auto Rickshaw Associations and drivers in large number. RTO impressed upon the drivers to be polite and cooperative towards the pilgrims visiting the Jammu city for Shri Amarnathji Yatra. He urged them not to indulge in wrong practices like overcharging, rash driving and overloading. He underlined the need to improve transport infrastructure and streamlining traffic management to provide best transport facilities. He said that tourism sector is the back bone of the state’s economy adding that there is need for responsible and sustainable tourism in the state. He sought support of transporters for smooth conduct of the yatra. He said that training programmes for conductors would also be organized in near future to improve better services. Deputy Transport Commissioner also spoke on the occasion and urged the transporters to be friendly with the visiting pilgrims and tourists so that they do not face any inconvenience. He said that Jammu is base camp for Shri Amarnath Yatries and it is our prime duty to give our best to the visiting pilgrims/tourists. ARTO, Mr. Kuldeep Singh lauded the role of drivers for providing their best services to the pilgrims during the Yatra and urged them to adopt the same practise with utmost honesty, discipline and faith. He said that drivers have to play pivotal role and can act as guide for tourists that would ease their journey. He said that Motor Vehicle Department has put in place effective mechanism to reduce traffic congestions in the city and said that people’s cooperation is imperative for better traffic management. Mr. Tariq Amin, Mr. Gagan Pratap Singh, Mr. Dhreej Kumar and Mr. Amit Kumar faculty of the Department of Hospitality & Tourism Management, Government Polytechnic College interacted with the participants and sensitized them about their role in promoting tourism. |
