Rs. 16,000 realized as fine from erring handicraft dealers

SRINAGAR: An inspection was conducted jointly by the Assistant Commissioner Revenue alongwith the Enforcement Wing of Quality Control Division, Directorate of Handicrafts to ensure sale and quality handicrafts by dealers of Boulevard and Dalgate tourist areas.
During the inspection, the handicraft dealers were found running their business without a valid Tourist Trade Registration Certificates, besides without proper price tags and cash memos and were penalized. An amount of Rs. 16,000/- was realized as fine from the erring dealers on the occasion.
All the handicraft dealers have been warned to desist from selling machine made items in the name of Kashmiri art and adhere to the rules and regulation of Tourist Trade Act in letter and spirit, failing which necessary action as warranted under law shall be initiated against them.
