| Recommends for adopting EIA before framing Master plan, Gandola project up to upper reaches of Ahrabal | | Environment Committee visits Aharabal | | SRINAGAR, July 3: The Committee on Environment of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Tuesday visited Aharbal Tourist Resort to assess and discuss the environmental concerns together with the measures initiated by the department viz a viz the District Administration for its safeguard. The Committee Chairman, Mr. M. Y. Taigami, accompanied by its members included Mr. Abdul Rehman Veeri, Mr. Mohammad Khalil Band, Mr. Mohammad Yaseen Shah, Mr. Rafi Ahmad Mir, Mr. Durga Dass and Mr. Mohammad Ashraf Ganie recommended for adopting Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) before framing Master Plan for the development of Aharabal. The Committee also recommended for establishment of Gandola in the area so that the tourists can enjoy the scenic beauty of other adjoining areas of the Aharbal. The panel observes that Aharbal has great potential for tourism sector. It observed that it needs special attention for development of tourism infrastructure so that local and domestic tourists can get attracted towards the area, adding that the initiative would help in generating employment avenues for the locals also. The Committee also stressed for exploration of virgin tourist spots so that rush at traditional tourist places minimise and the ecological and environmental balance is maintained The Committee also maintained that the promotion of tourism is necessary for the economy of the State but observed that protection and safeguard of the environment should be priority for the sustenance and preservation of natural resources. Among others Commissioner Secretary Tourism, Chief Wildlife Warden, Director Environment, Ecology and Remote Sensing, Deputy Commissioner, Kulgam, Secretary Pollution Control Board, CEO Aharbal Development Authority, officers of Assembly Secretariat and other concerned departments were also accompanied the Committee during visit. |
