J&K youth possess great sportsmanship capabilities: Mir
‘Says time is ripe to channelize youth energy for nation building’

CHAKI SERI (PATTAN): Minister for Agriculture, Mr. Ghulam Hassan Mir Friday said that the youth of the state have great sportsmanship capabilities and time has come to give them more opportunities in different fields to channelize their potential in positive direction.
The Minister was addressing a sizable public gathering after witnessing the Cricket tournament here this afternoon which was organized by Panchayat Committee Seri Warapora Pattan. More than 30 teams participated in the tournament.
Saying that sports impart discipline and sense of responsibility among the players, which is key to the overall development of youth and to realize the cherished dreams.. He said that time has changed and sports are now the important ingredients in educational curriculum, adding that it has an important role in shaping the body fitness of the young generation.
Asking the youth to opt sports as a career, the Minister said that time has gone when medical ,engineering, business, management and other public and private sector jobs were being considered as prosperous career avenues, but today sports is being considered as one of the lucrative career avenue. He said that our young generation has enormous potential and capacity to rule the world in every field but this can be realized with the collective responsibility of various stake holders to provide proper platform and adequate infrastructure.
Referring to the steps taken by the coalition government for the development of sports infrastructure, the Minister
said that adequate funds have been made available at the disposal of Sports Council and Directorate of Sports for up-gradation of sports infrastructure and organizing the sports events of different spots across the state particularly in rural areas for nourishing their hidden talent. He said that a centrally sponsored scheme was also launched in the state to upgrade rural sports fields at Panchayats level which would help to encourage the rural talent of the state.
Later the Minister distributed the awards and mementos among the winners and runners-up teams and other players who performed well during the tournament.
