Jammu, July 19 : The regular power cuts in Jammu in the scorching heat and lack of development in the Patnitop and Sanasar led the people move out of state to enjoy their weekends. The people of the Jammu city, especially the businessmen and Shopkeeper community, who usually go to Patnitop and Sanasar to enjoy the weekends, as the market in Jammu use to be closed on Sunday. Rohit Gupta of Pratap Shoes said, "Earlier, Patnitop and Sanasar was the first destination for our weekend holiday during winters, but the regular power cuts in the state and bad condition of road to Patnitop forced us to go out of the State." "As my kids have summer vacations and my shop will be closed on Sunday, we have planned to go to Dharamsala, No doubt Patnitop is a best hill station, but who will guarantee the power supply, internet, phone, roads and other things there?" he added. Patnitop is 112km from here, which is the nearest tourist destination of Jammu. Summers in Patnitop are mild and inviting and winters are very cold. Patnitop experience a maximum temperature of around 35 Degree Celsius and a minimum temperature may go below 10 Degree Celsius during night. The hide and seek of the power supply in Jammu had made it difficult the people of the city to do their jobs in the scorching head of 40 degree with humidity of above 60 per cent. Bafar Shah, an owner of a Readymade Garment's Shop at residency road said, "My daughter is studying at Chandigarh, she refused to come in Jammu during is vacations saying, "Arrange the electricity first." "She wants us to go there to see her, she doesn't want to settle here after her studies, calling Jammu a 'backward city', he added. In the scorching heat in Jammu, Patnitop and Sanasar are the first destination which hits the mind of the people of Jammu, but as the administration failed to provide basic amenities to the people of the city, people do not expect anything in the areas like Patnitop and Sanasar. Kapil Gupta, owner of a hardware shop at Vinayak Bazar said, "Since it is an off tomorrow, I am planning to take my family to Dalhousie for a day or so. The heat in Jammu is unbearable so going to a calm n serene place like Dalhousie is a better option." "Patnitop is lacking in basic amenities now days and no developmental work is being undertaken by the authorities, it has become a victim of official apathy as well as public's indifference," he added. |
