JAMMU, July 20 : The Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand today said the government is fully committed to address the welfare needs of different sections of society through different social welfare initiatives. Upliftment of underprivileged, marginalized, old age persons, physically challenged, women and children in distress is priority of the government and different schemes have been launched to ameliorate the lot of these people in distress, he added.
He was addressing a gathering on the occasion of one day social welfare awareness camp at Khour today. Sarpanchs, Panchs and scores of people of the area attended the camp. During the camp the Deputy Chief Minister distributed wheel chairs, tricycles, hearing aids and sewing machine sets to various beneficiaries of the area.
A total of 10 wheel chairs, 5 tri-cycles, 12 hearing aids and 50 sewing machine sets were distributed. While addressing the gathering, Tara Chand called upon people at large to avail maximum benefits from the awareness camps which are being organised in the area from time to time and come forward to get registered for different schemes and programmes being launched by the government. Panchayati Raj representatives can play decisive role in making people aware about different schemes launched in social welfare, labour, agriculture, rural development and employment sector, he added.
He said all the required formalities for getting registered under different social welfare schemes would be completed in the camp and people who get registered would be saved of the hassle to travel to the district office for filling the forms and completing the formalities.
“Exemplary initiatives have been taken by the government to address the needs of different sections of the society and benefits in real terms will only happen when every single beneficiary gets covered under the respective schemes,” he said. He directed the concerned officers to address the gaps existing in benefit delivery mechanism and ensure that time bound settlement of cases is done. Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Akhnoor Mr. N.S.Jamwal, District Social Welfare Officer Mr. Kulraj and other officers of the department participated in the camp.
