Sham reviews drinking water scenario in Dooru areas
Mir seeks adequate funds for speedy completion of schemes

‘39 schemes with an estimated cost of Rs. 3984.69 cr under execution in Dooru’
SRINAGAR, July 25 : As many as 39 PHE schemes have been undertaken in Dooru Constituency at an estimated cost of Rs. 3984. 69 crore. Out of which, 16 have been prioritized to be completed during the current fiscal. These schemes will cover 65 new habitations and benefit to over 70,000 population with potable drinking water. This information was given at a high-level meeting which was convened here today to review the status of various on-going PHE schemes in Dooru Constituency. The meeting was chaired by the Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Mr. Sham Lal Sharma. Minister for Tourism (MLA Dooru), Mr. Ghulam Ahmed Mir was also present in the meeting.
While taking a detailed review of each scheme, the Minister stressed the need for accelerating the pace and their time bound completion. He directed the engineers to develop sustainable sources, so that the schemes serve their real objective on ground. He also directed for taking preventive measures for the preservation of water sources against the menace of flood waters and other hazards so that the people can get the quality water. Mr. Sham directed the engineers to formulate new schemes for the uncovered areas to provide potable drinking water to the people. He suggested for exploring possibilities to tap the water emanating out of the railway tunnels being constructed in the area. He said drinking water is the fundamental need of every human being and engineers must take necessary steps to provide this essential commodity to the people with their sincere and committed efforts.
Assuring the Tourism Minister for expeditious completion of prioritized projects, the PHE Minister said that funds will not be the constraints. He also assured to upgrade the existing infrastructure to enhance the efficiency of the schemes. Mr. Mir revealed the ground situation of the Constituency and urged for adequate funding for the expeditious completion of on-going projects. For providing immediate succour to the vulnerable areas, he suggested to construct bore-wells and supply of water through tankers and other means. He urged the engineers to strengthen the monitoring mechanism to clear various bottlenecks for completion of schemes. He also requested for framing new proposals for uncovered areas to meet the futuristic needs in view of increased flow of population and expansion of new colonies. He also requested for arranging funds for completion of irrigational projects in the area in a time bound manner.
The Tourism Minister expressed his gratitude to the PHE Minister and his team of officers for pro-active approach in addressing the problems of Dooru Constituency.
Commissioner/Secretary PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Dr. Pawan Kotwal, Chief Engineer, PHE, Mr. A.M. Lanker, Chief Engineer, Irrigation & Flood Control, Mir Javed Jaffer, Superintending Engineers and Executive Engineers concerned were also present in the meeting.
