SRINAGAR : A high level officers meeting was held here today under the Chairmanship of Minister for Labour, Employment and Planning Mr. Ajay Sadhotra to review the prospectus of Self Help Groups (SHGs) Scheme for unemployed engineers, conceived by the Government a decade before for welfare and upliftment of unemployed youth. The meeting was attended by Commissioner Secretary Labour and Employment, Mr. B.A. Runiyal, Commissioner Secretary Housing and Urban Development Department, Mr. Jeet Lal Gupta, Commissioner Secretary PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Dr, Pawan Kotwal, Commissioner Secretary Rural Development Department, Farooq Ahmed Peer, Commissioner Secretary R&B, Mrs. Tanveer Jehan, Director SKIMS, Dr. Showkat Zargar, Additional Secretary Forest, Dr. G.N. Itoo, Managing Director, HPMC, Syed Rafiq Ahmed, Special Secretary, Chief Ministers’ Secretariat, Smt Dev Lata, Additional Secretary Education, R.A. Inqulabi, Additional Secretary, PDD, Smt Sheetal Nanda, PPMO, SKUAST, Jammu Dr. Deepak Kher, Deputy Registrar, Kashmir University, Dr. Mir Nisar Ahmed, Joint Director Planning, Economist & Statistics Department, Mr. Tariq Ahmed. Addressing the meeting, the Minister reiterated governments resolve to boost the morale of unemployed educated youth by launching various self-employment schemes and ensuring strict implementation of the rules framed for the purpose. He said that youth are the backbone of the states’ economy and every effort should be made to provide all possible facilities for their well-being to earn livelihood with dignity and honour. Directing the Officers to lend their helping hand to youth in formation of SHGs and also in taking maximum benefits of self- employment schemes the Minister hoped that the youth of the State shall prosper and will live most satisfied life. Commissioner Secretary Labour & Employment, Mr. B.A. Runiyal on this occasion apprised the meeting about the concept and pace of SHG Scheme in the State through a power point presentation. He said that SHG shall comprise of 5 to 10 unemployed engineers, who would framed a consortium and the groups so formed shall be referred by the Director Employment to R&B, RDD, Irrigation and Flood Control and PDD for allotment of Development works. He said that the engineers after being registered shall be imparted some basic training if any required for skill up-gradation by the respective works department. These groups shall have to compete on the basis tenders with other contractors in normal course. He said at present there are 259 SHGs comprising of 1295 engineers. Earlier, a meeting of officers of Economic Reconstruction Agency was held today under the Chairmanship of Minister for Planning, Labour & Employment, Mr. Ajay Sadhotra. Principal Secretary Planning and Development, Mr. B.R. Sharma, Chief Executive Officer, ERA, Mr. Saurabh Bhagat and Director ERA, Mr. Naresh Langeh was present on the occasion. The meeting was informed that three bridges which include Saidpora bridge in Ganderbal, Kirkadal bridge in Bijbehara and Gund Khaja Bridge at Singhpora have been completed by ERA besides Tokina bridge and Wahibugh bridge in Pulwama are under construction. The meeting was further informed that Wanpoh- Kulangam road, Aharbal road, Bagh-i- Mehtab-Char-i-Sharief road, Natipora- Newa Pulwama road and Bijbehera- Lang-anbal road have also been completed by ERA and opened for traffic. |
