| MLA Kathua clashes with DC over refugee rights | | Disputed land | | Arun Trisal KATHUA, July 31: MLA Kathua Charanjeet Singh is at loggerheads with district administration over 106 Kanals of disputed land situated in Janglot Morh. MLA Kathua Charanjeet Singh has leveled serious allegations over DC Kathua Jatinder Singh and police for harassing people who have claim over the land. Speaking to the ET, the MLA said that about 106 Kanal land under khasra number 803/1 situated at Janglot Morh,Kathua was allotted to the refugees by the state government on 8 July 2013. The then Tehsildhar Jatinder Mishra gave the revenue documents including Farad Intikhab to the poor people but within 20 days after the possession was allotted, the same tehsildhar, DC Kathua and some police officers reached the same piece of land and debarred people from carrying out agricultural activities. They were told that they had come here on the directions of the Tribunal court order. He further said that as per court order, the civil administration was directed to maintain status quo on the same land. Court gave order after some people claimed that the piece of land government allotted to the poor people basically belonged to them. The status quo means that the allottees have no claim to sell the same land to anybody, he said. "Why DC Kathua and police is interested to intervene, though, there is no order to both the departments to personally visit the land the drag the people out of their property", he questions, adding, out of 106 kanal of land some chunck of land was allotted to the Jammu University Campus by the government and construction work is in progress, but DC Kathua and police ignored the same, the reason best known to them. Meanwhile, DC Kathua when contacted said that he has regards for MLA but on 22 July, Tribunal Court wrote to the civil administration Kathua directing them to keep the land in question as it is. "How can the district administration allow commoners to cultivate the land which is disputed," added Deputy Commissioner. |
