Anantnag, July 31: The tall claims of administration to keep tab on shopkeepers from charging exorbitant, falls flat as the residents of rural and urban areas of Anantnag and Kulgam districts have rued that market checking drives are confined only to some areas while shopkeepers have been charging as per their whims and fancies. Local populace of twin districts told Early Times that the administration just for media hype has constituted market checking teams after the commencement of Ramdan, however the administration has failed to check the black marketing, over pricing of eatables notably in rural areas of both districts. Official sources revealed that for the first time, additional deputy commissioner Kulgam raided few shops in Kulgam Main market before days and fined them, after few days a market checking squad again visited the same shops, gathered a fine Rs 2500/ from them. So for as the market checking squad who's both raids remained news headlines for some urdu dallies and new Delhi based channels broadcasting Kashmir news bulletin, haven't even visited the Chwalgam area of the town. "This is just to show people that governance prevails otherwise, inside administration no one bothers about the grievances of public", a government official posted in Kulgam said, adding that the media houses in valley are being easily exploited on meagre benefits. Tariq Ahmad, a local said, "Market checking squad will only ge visible in Main market Kulgam, i never seen them in rural areas were people suffer due to overcharging by shopkeepers, low quality of eatables etc," adding employees posted in CAPD here at Kulgam who are supposed to check the quality and price have became dragons, who continue to drag salaries from state exchanger without doing any work which was assigned to them. Similarly, locals here in Anantnag town rue the tall claims of administration and said that the administration has confined market checking process to town areas while as the people in rural areas continue to suffer. They said that if the administration lacks man power they should have established help lines that could help the poor villagers. Divisional commissioner Kashmir, Shalender Kumar, when contacted said that he would look into the matter and directed both DC's to make market checking effective. |
