| End regional discrimination to avoid division: Experts | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 31: Senior Government circles and prominent political leaders rule out the possibility of reorganization of Jammu and Kashmir for the purpose of giving statehood to the region of Jammu. Referring to the creation of Telengana state which will become country's 29th state, Government sources said that neither the centre nor the ruling coalition besides the opposition Peoples Democratic Party are in favour of division of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. They said that the demand for a separate Jammu state has been surfacing from time to time and this demand assumes various dimensions whenever people in the province feel the pinch of regional discrimination. Political leaders belonging to National Conferenc (N), PDP and the Congress continue to oppose any division of the state. Even separatists leaders Prof Abdul Gani Bhat and Syed Ali Shah Geelani too have announced they will not allow any division of the state. Reports said major national level parties too are opposed to the division of state observing that creation of Jammu state could add new dimensions to the already ticklish Kashmir issue. According to these reports Congress led UPA Government does not want to weaken India's case on Kashmir by carving out a separate state of Jammu. Number of top political ranks at national level including those belonging to BJP have suggested to state Government to amend the constitution for fresh delimitation commission to bring parity between number of Assembly segments in two regions viz. Kashmir and Jammu. |
