| Private Schools Front takes Government head on, rejects diktat of submission of documents for fee structure | | | Jehangir Rashid SRINAGAR, July 31: Taking the government head on the newly floated Jammu & Kashmir Private Schools United Front has decided not to submit documents containing details about the fee being charged from the students of the private schools in the state. The state government had asked the private school owners to submit details regarding the fee structure as existing in the schools. The diktat was issued in order to regulate the fee structure in the private schools and scuttle moves of the private schools to hike the fees arbitrarily without taking the stake holders into confidence. Mohammad Syed Shah, Publicity Secretary, Jammu & Kashmir Private Schools United Front (JKPSUF) here today said the decision not to submit documents was taken during an extraordinary meeting of the Front held here. Syed said the meeting was held to evaluate the latest developments with regard to implementation of orders for regulation of fee of private schools. "It is once again reiterated that the Front has resolved after taking into consideration the legal status and feedback from a majority of private schools that the formation of Fee Regulation Committee in itself is contradictory as the major party i.e., private schools have not been taken on board while framing the guidelines," said the publicity secretary. Syed said that no school of the state shall submit documents as it is strongly felt that the move will choke the autonomy of private educational sector. He said the Front will resist all such moves and endorses the decision taken by the Coordination Committee in this behalf. "The Government policing and floating of orders without taking into consideration the ground situation has been viewed seriously and the Front shall not in any case compromise on the honour, dignity and the autonomous character of private schools. The Front will instill a new hope and new life to the education sector which is facing suffocation because of unjust approach of the Government," said the publicity secretary. Meanwhile, sources told Early Times that Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand while interacting with a deputation of School Education Employees Coordination Committee (SEECC) has expressed satisfaction over the functioning of Private Schools Fee Structure Committee. Tara Chand said that most of the schools in private sector are ready to cooperate and fix genuine fee for students of various classes, studying in their schools. With JKPSUF deciding not to submit documents it remains to be seen that what will be the response of the state government since the Front consists of scores of private schools in the state. One cannot rule out confrontation between the two sides with the students of the private schools being the ultimate sufferers. |
