Jammu, Mar 20: The Department of Social Forestry, J&K in collaboration with Canal Road Walkers' Welfare Association (CRWWA) Shakti Nagar, Jammu celebrated 39th Arbor Day in which more than 50 students from different Government Schools and about 30-40 members of Morning Walkers' Welfare Association actively participated. M.A. Tak, IFS Director, Department of Social Forestry, J&K-Jammu was the Chief Guest on the occasion and the function was started with ceremonial plantation by the Chief Guest and others. The function was also attended by some retired Forest officers namely P.P. Sharma, IFS, S.D. Swatantra, IFS, Lal Chand, IFS, S.I.H. Kazmi, IFS and S.C. Sharma, IFS who, while speaking on the occasion, threw light on the importance of conservation of forests and expansion of tree cover for livelihood of mankind besides actively participating in different events including Open plant/tree Quiz competition, identification of foliage and painting competition among school students. The President of CRWWA M.S. Nargal speaking on the occasion thanked the Social Forestry Department for the initiative taken and requested the authorities for extending suitable assistance for the maintenance of the Park. The Department of Social Forestry distributed more than 200 seedlings of avenue/medicinal plants to the participants for Farm Forestry purpose. Further, the attraction of the function was a stall displaying plants associated with Zodiac signs which was highly appreciated by one and all.
