| CWA visits Amul's Snow Cap milk plant | | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 9: Members of Consumer Welfare Association (CWA), led by Vikram Gour president along with Vijay Ojha, Chander Udhey Sharma & Rajinder Kakkar visited Snowcap Milk Plant at Digiyana. The government pasteurization plant that has an overall capacity of processing 25, 000-liters of milk daily and is working under overall supervision of Amul and is procuring and supplying only 5,000-6,000 Liters of milk and milk products including ghee and curd daily to partly meet a total demand of about 20,000-25,000 Ltrs of processed/packed milk/milk products daily in Jammu region. Rest of the demand is being met by Veraka, Amul and some other local milk processing units like Surya milk etc. Interaction with Mayank Tiwari, Manager of the unit revealed that management over the years has not been able to increase its production capacity because of financial inadequacies and various other difficulties. Expansion projects for increasing the production to 50,000-ltrs have already been submitted to the Govt of India through the state government. It would take its own processing time before sanction is accorded. Till then any increase in production might not be possible. Later the CWA members were taken around the plant by Darshan Kumar and Sarda Chand in-charge plant. While the working the plant was satisfactory it was noticed by CWA that management was not very serious about the hygienic conditions around the plant. While the workers were walking around the plant with their normal footwear on the procurement side the flies could be seen in abundance. |
