Baramulla LS seat 'declared' ahead of results? | | | Bashir Assad
Srinagar, May 9: Though the opposition PDP, Peoples Conference and ruling National Conference are claiming to have won the Baramulla Lok sabha seat, the statements made by senior Congress leader and Minister for Health and Medical Education, Taj Mohiudin and that of the Agriuculture Minister Ghulam Hassan Mir which appeared in a section of press today have made it easy for all the stake holders to clearly assess the situation. Significantly both the senior Ministers in Omar government represented Uri and Tanmarg assembly segments in the state legislature have hinted at PDP's victory in the contest. Though ET on May 7 had predicted an edge for the PDP over NC and PC, the latest statements of Taj and Mir have substantiated the opinion that there is a strong undercurrent against the ruling dispensation and stalwarts like Taj and Mir could not save coalition from defeat. Now it can be said with certain degree of authenticity that PDP has performed well in North too and has succesfully translated the resentment against ruling alliance into votes. Political commentators opine that Taj Mohiuddin and Ghulam Hasan Mir-the two non NC ministers from North Kashmir have failed to transfer their support base in favour of NC candidate Shari-ud-Din Shariq which could certainly be a setback for Kashmir's grand old political party. Political commentators hold the view that in Kupwara, Handwara and Gurez constituencies, NC has an edge over PDP but in rest of the constituencies PDP has got a clear edge by virtue of which it would not only counterbalance whatever lead NC gets from the aforementioned three segments but would lead the contest by at least seven to eight thousand votes. "In Kupwara, Handwara and Gurez PDP is nowhere in contest, it is the PC and NC which are neck to neck, however, in Baramullah and Bandipora districts PDP is miles ahead iof its opponents" said a political commentator. He said NC is trailing in Karnah, Sonawari, Sopore- represented by it in state legislature. HE, however, admitted that in Bandipora and Sangrama constituencies which are represented by Nizamuddin Bhat and Basharat Bukhari in the assembly PDP has no significant lead. But to the utter surprise of all PDP is leading in Uri, Tangmerg, Baramullah, Pattan, Lolab, Langate assembly segments. Even PCC President, Professor Saifuddin Soz today admitted that despite of sincere and serious efforts, they could not transfer their suppost base into votes for alliance candidate. However, now when the political fate of Dr Farooq, Sharif-ul-din Shariq and Dr Mehboob Baig of NC, Mehbooba Mufti, Tariq Hamid Karra and Muzaffar Hussain Baig of PDP is closed in the EVMs, all eyes are on May 16, when their result will be out. |
