Scores of vehicles damaged, over hundred CRPF men injured

Srinagar, May 9, : Country had to pay heavy price for ensuring free and fair polls for three seats conducted in Kashmir in three phases as the exercise left more than 100 CRPF personnel injured while more than 100 vehicles mostly hired by CRPF for ferrying security personnel for election purpose were damaged in stone-pelting incidents.
CRPF spokesperson, Kishor Prasad told that maximum number of CRPF personnel suffered injuries in South Kashmir, followed by Central Kashmir and North Kashmir. "At least 8 CRPF personnel were injured in a single incident in Soura Srinagar just a day before polling. One of our men suffered major injuries in Sopore while in different parts of Kulgam and Shopian, the stone-pelters caused damaged to scores of our vehicles," Prasad said.
Another CRPF official on condition of anonymity told that scores of vehicles of CRPF came under massive attack of stone-pelters at different places of South Kashmir's Pulwama town. "In Kakapora alone some 16 vehicles got damaged while scores of our men were injured," he said. "Scores of youth attacked our bunkers and damaged them at various places.
During these three phases of election in Kashmir Valley various CRPF men were also injured in militant attacks. Three of our men were injured in grenade and petrol bomb attacks," he said. At least 235 vehicles of State Road Transport Corporation that were used for election purposes were damaged during different incidents of stone-pelting in Kashmir Valley. Giving details, the publicity secretary of SRTC told that besides the damage caused by stone-pelters to 235 SRTC vehicles, 13 employees were also injured. "One of our driver Manzoor Ahmed Lone resident of Midoora Tral received bullet injuries while ferrying polling staff in his vehicle JK0Y-591. Another employee Khazar Muhammad of Anantnag while returning from polling station along with polling staff in his SRTC bus (JK01Y-406) came under attack from stone-pelters and suffered serious injuries in North Kashmir's Baramulla town," he said. Besides Manzoor Lone and Khazar Muhammad, the other employees who suffered injuries during the three phases of polls in Kashmir were Manzoor Trali (Tral), Khurshid Najar (Nishat), Ali Gashroo (Telbal), Maqsood Shiekh (Haft Chinar), Zahoor Bhat (Batamaloo), Nazir Ganaie (Magam), Muhammad Yousuf (Lal Bazar) Arif Wani (Hyderpora), Nazir Ahmed, Mushtaq Ahmed and Muhammad Saleem all residents of Tangmrag.
