| Budgam villagers protest against wild animal scare; hold dharna | | | Early Times Report srinagar, May 31: Residents of Buchroo and adjacent villages in Central Kashmir's Budgam district today held protest demonstrations against the district administration in their alleged failure to act against a wild animal that has caused fear psychosis among the people there. Reports said that early morning scores of residents of the villages assembled in the main market of Wathora and staged protest demonstration against the Budgam district administration. The protesters alleged that the administration has failed to act against the wild animal that has been roaming over the past few days. The protesters said that around 60 sheep were injured by the wild animal during the preceding night in the Buchroo village. They said that the matter was brought into to the notice of the district administration adding that no action whatsoever has been taken in the matter so far. The protesters sat on dharna for hours together and blocked the traffic that was going towards the Chadoora town. They also did not allow the vehicles bound for Srinagar from Chadoora to pass through the Wathora area and as such the people faced tremendous difficulties in reaching their respective destinations. Some of the people who were proceeding towards Chadoora had to take an alternate route via the Zaloowa but the majority remained stranded near Wathora until the dharna was lifted by the protesters. The people coming from the other side too got stranded for a lot of time and there was complete mess in the area. The protesters alleged that wild animal has created panic in the villages and the people are feeling scared to move out especially during the evening and night hours. They said the wild animal has caused tremendous loss to the stock of animals that the residents have at their respective homes. The dharna was lifted from the area after the assurance that the district administration would act swiftly in the matter and take all the necessary steps to prevent further attacks from the wild animal. Following the lifting of the dharna the normal activities resumed and the traffic movement became normal in the Wathora area. |
