Anantnag, June 17: Insensitivity and lack of accountability of the Omar government came to fore yet again when much needed help to the Hepatitis-C affected families of Kokernag could not reach them more than five months after state cabinet gave its nod for the same. In the beginning of this year, Hepatitis-C broke out in remote village of Takiya-Magam, Kokernag and claimed three lives during the initial stage while as affected hundreds of souls. According to official records, during sampling of the village and in its adjacent areas 300 patients were tested positive, however the department couldn't find out the reason of the spreading of the disease. After the outbreak of the disease, Omar Abdullah while chairing a cabinet meet in February this year announced and granted Rs.7.50 crore for tackling the disease in the area and Minister for Hajj and Auqaf, Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed who represents Kokernag Assembly constituency on February 08, extended his gratitude to the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and the State Cabinet for granting extra-ordinary financial support of Rs.7.50 crore to tackle the prevailing Hepatitis-C situation , but the 'extra-ordinary financial support' never reached where it was directed to. Officially government accepted that over 30% population got affected with the disease in the affected areas and maintained that the approved amount will be used in first phase to tackle the disease. Affected souls were assured free medical help and care in Sheri Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) but ironically after the passage over five months, but the tall claims of the state government stand exposed as affected souls continue to wait for the help. Locals feel betrayed as the state government failed in fulfilling the promise which it has done with them. "What can you expect from this government; still this government is befooling us." A local resident said. With Director SKIMS confirming that no amount was released for Hepatitis-C affected families of Kokernag, Omar Abdullah and his cabinet stands exposed. "We were asked to submit the estimates, which we have submitted before couple of months. As far as the approval of 7.50 crores in cabinet meet is concern we have not received any amount so far for tackling the disease in the area." DrShowketZargar, Director SKIMS said. |
