Anantnag, June 17: Crediting its men for recently held 'peaceful' parliamentary elections, Director General of Police (DGP) K. Rajendra Kumar, directed Police to get ready for facing the Challenge of peaceful conduct of Amarnath pilgrimage. Addressing a gathering police constables and head constables here in District Police Lines, K. Rajendra Kumar while boosting their morale said, "it is because of yours efforts that we succeeded in conducting the Parliamentary elections peacefully and smoothly." Adding this year Police has to face many serious challenges which include smooth passage of Amarnath pilgrimage. "Many challenges we have to face this year but among them the biggest challenge for us is the smooth passage of Amarnath Pilgrimage." He said directing them to get ready for fighting terrorism, maintaining law and order and for conducting assembly polls smoothly. Accompanied by Senior Police officials including, IGP Abdul Gani Mir, DIG South Kashmir Range Vijay Kumar, SSP's of Anantnag, Kulgam, Pulwama and Shopian, Director General of Police emphasized needs bridging the gap prevailing between Police and Public. "Be responsive in and outside police stations, re-gain the rust of the Public which will ultimately help in bridging the prevailing gap." He said. Earlier, Police constables and head constable raised their issues related to welfare schemes, medical polices, ration money, and promotions with Director General of Police and received redressal assurance from him. Pertinent to mention here that ShriAmarnath Pilgrimage is scheduled to start from June 28 for which the ShriAmarnath Board has already started up the process of establishing the base camps providing basic facilities to the visiting pilgrims during this period. Besides it security agencies have dominated the Himalayan region facing militancy threat ever since.
