| 5 security men among 13 injured in Tangdhar recruitment drive | | | Syed Tahir Bukhari KUPWARA, Aug 5: Thireen persons including five security men were injured in clashes triggered during an Army recruitment drive at Tangdhar near the LoC today morning. According to sources "everything was going on smoothly when the supporters of one faction allegedly instigated others for violence'. "Thousands of unemployed youth went for Army recruitment at Chamkote area of Tangdhar sector which is very close to the Line of Control (LOC) at the end of the day it proved fatal, sources said. An eyewitness told Early Times that, "two factions were the main source of trouble. To get their supporters adjusted in the Army, these factions created chaos and fuss as a result common job aspirants suffered immensely," "The supporters of one faction made some job aspirants believe that a political leader has used his influence and has already got his blue-eyed candidates selected for the job. This infuriated some youth who felt dejected and resorted to violence." A top official wishing not to be named said that, "for personal interests the leaders of these two factions let the people of the area suffer who were beaten to pulp by Army during mob controlling exercise. According to official sources that at least 13 people including few security personnel, were injured in clashes which broke out today. "Army conducted a recruitment rally at Tangdhar in Kupwara district of north Kashmir. Trouble broke out in Chamkote village of Tangdhar region, close to Line of Control, after a group of aspirants for jobs in a Territorial Army unit started pelting stones at personnel conducting the physical tests, official said. He said the candidates who were rejected in the physical tests resorted to violence and even set ablaze the fencing of the arena where the tests were conducted. "The Army personnel, sensing danger to life and property, fired few blank rounds which do not cause any injuries. The injuries have been caused by stone pelting," official said. He added, "One of the candidates has suffered head injury and may need to be evacuated to a hospital in Srinagar for specialized treatment. However the official said more than 4,000 candidates had turned up for the "few posts" which were to be filled up at the recruitment rally. Meanwhile, a top police official said that, "the agitating candidates alleged that the recruiting officials relaxed the rules to allow middle school pass candidates to appear in the physical test against the criterion of 'Matriculates and above' only. Later on more reinforcement was called on to bring the situation under control, he added. |
