| Minor drowns in Tawi, relatives stage protest over delay in 'search operation' | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 5: Irate over delay in 'search cum rescue operation' to fish out the body of a minor who got drowned in the river Tawi last late evening, the resident of Krishnanagar locality alongwith relatives of deceased blocked the vehicular traffic at during their protest held at three places including two bridges across the river Tawi. "Deceased identified as Arun (12) s/o of Ravi Kumar of Krishana Nagar along with another youth went to the river Tawi near fourth bridge for bathing and while bathing Arun accidently slipped into deep water and got drowned," said police sources adding that the youth accompanying the minor informed the family members in this regard. After getting the information, police reached the spot but failed to fish out the body and following the darkness, police suspend the operation and resumed it today morning. Today in the morning, relatives of the deceased approached the Deputy Commissioner (DC), Ajeet Kumar Sahu who assured them for calling army divers for fishing out body from river Tawi. One of the protesting relative of the deceased alleged that after passing of over three hours after assurance of DC, when army divers failed to reach they started protesting and blocked the vehicular traffic at Canal Road for around 2 hours. "Meanwhile, agitating protestors moved to jewel chock and blocked the vehicular there for some time and then further moved to the Tawi bridge and blocked the vehicular traffic there for some hours", said police sources. "At around 4:05 pm, army divers reached the spot of drowning incident and it was then the protestors got pacified who later lifted the blockade", said police sources adding that army divers started operation but they failed to recover the body when last reports came in. Police sources further said that due to darkness, the operation was suspended by the army divers till tomorrow morning. |
