| Jammu facing worst ever power crisis | | About 100 transformers damaged | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 5: The Jammu region facing worst ever power crisis with state Government totally sleeping over the issue. The power crisis have deepened to such an extent that people daily resort to road blockades and protest demonstrations for hours together torching the effigies of PDD authorities. According to sources the main reason for the power crisis is burning down of transformers and leakages. The PDD has failed to look into this main problem which mostly surfaces during summer in Jammu region and during winter in Kashmir valley. Sources said the situation is so grave that transformers after burning are not replaced and renovated for days together. Sources said over 100 transformers have developed snag in Jammu region and have been taken to respective workshops for restoration. Sources said in view of increasing public pressure the authorities bring the transformers from workshops hurriedly restored but they fail to function for a day and in this process two to three transformers are replaced on daily basis but then don't function, resulting in public outcry. People of Gurah Keran are without power for last 10 days as the authorities failed to restore the power transformer which got damaged due to increasing load. This forced the people to block Jammu Akhnoor road for three hours on Monday but still transformer was not restored despite assurances of people. Some police officers have also after grappling with law and order problem have written to PDD authorities to take effective measures in replacing transformers as quickly as possible became the same is going to create a law and order problem. In Ajit Colony Gole Gujral people face low voltage problem as 200 MVA transformers does not cater to the increasing load. Despite the repeated pleas of the people to install a high capacity transformers authorities have failed to listen. In Durga Nagar sector one which is fully metered transformer develops snag twice in every week. Despite the repeated pleas of the residents PDD has failed to look into the problem. In Sharda Colony Patoli sector two, transformer after developing a snag was replaced thrice in a week and then it functioned properly. Sources said in Vijaypur Tehsil alone 20 transformers are damaged for days together and PDD authorities have failed to replace them. Fed up with power crisis and low voltage in Vijaypur people of the area voluntarily two days back checked illegal connections in the Shiv Nagar area and removed scores of such connections, seized wire, heaters and other electric gadgets from people who were running the same illegally. |
