Staff, Patients, attendants in panic as authorities assume stoic silence
Valley hospitals turn safe havens for drug mafia

SRINAGAR, Aug 5: With the government taking its last breaths, the drug mafia has virtually taken over the Kashmir valley right under the nose of the authorities who have assumed a clandestine silence to the utter dismay and shock of the people.
The sale of these drugs is taking place around the premiere hospitals of the valley because these hospitals have proved to be the save heavens for the people who are involved in this heinous crime. Dead of the night gives the patients and their attendants sleepless moments as these criminals frequent these hospitals, thanks to the negligence of the government.
As there is no check on the movement of the criminals, the concerned authorities are fast losing their credibility. It is hard to distinguish between the criminals and the attendants in the absence of proper security arrangement in place around these hospitals.
"As the sun sets, it is the time for the drunkards and drug addicts to take control of the SMHS hospital. It creates a sense of fear not only among the patients and the attendants but also amongst the doctors, thus affecting the work culture there," said an attendant from central Kashmir whose close relative is admitted in the hospital for the past several days.
There were many attendants from all over the valley who held the same views on the deteriorating condition of the hospitals. The people involved in the crimes feel encouraged as the authorities are behaving like the mute spectators and the hospitals have become the safe havens for these criminals, believe the commoners. The menace is not restricted to the SMHS hospital only as these drug addicts have virtually taken over other premier hospitals of the valley, including the tertiary care hospital SKIMS Soura.
