| 2 students trapped in flash floods, rescue operation on | | | Early Times Report KATHUA, Aug 5: Two students got trpped in flash floods in river Ravi in district Kathua when the hillock they were standing was marooned by the swollen river after heavy rain in upper reaches of Kathua here on Tuesday. According to police sources, a group of four students went to the village Dhanna situated along bank of river Ravi where two students in a bid to cross the river got trapped in swollen river water. "The duo has been identified as Balbir Singh s/o Anchal Singh and Pushpinder Singh s/o Hansraj, both residents of the ward No 4, Ramnagar Colony, Kathua, sources said. "Meantime, police have requested the DDC Kathua to call army so that they could be airlifted while the rescue operation was in progress till last reports came in, sources added. When contacted, SSP Kathua Mohan Lal said that a group of four students went to the village Dhanna situated by bank of river Ravi and two of them tried to cross the river. "However seeing water currents strong enough to swim across, the duo stood at the hillock with the riverbed but they got trapped as flash floods in river marooned the hillock, he said. SSP kathua added that soon after having information, a team from Lakhanpur Police Station rushed to the spot to launch a rescue operation which continued for late hours Tuesday evening. |
