| DB directs Div Coms' Jammu and Kashmir to submit step taken report | | PIL against slaughtering of bovine | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug5: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by an Advocate Parimoksh Seth regarding despite penal provisions of RPC make slaughtering or killing of bovine animals an offence punishable u/s 298-A, yet slaughtering and sale of such slaughtered animals in rampant in some parts of the state of Jammu and Kashmir, a Division Bench (DB) of State High Court issued notice to Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary Home and DGP J&K returnable within six weeks. While issuing notices, Division Bench comprising Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur and Justice Bansi Lal Bhat after hearing Adv A Chandel appearing for the PIL, directed Divisional Commissioners Jammu province as also Kashmir Province to submit a report by or before the next date of hearing as to the steps that have been taken with a view to prevent either slaughtering or sale of such slaughtered animals in various areas falling under their jurisdiction. Division Bench further directed Divisional Commissioners shall obtain inputs from Inspector General of Police Jammu as well as Kashmir range, to find out as to whether the activities of slaughtering of bovine animals and their sale is being undertaken as commercial level on regular basis and if so, what steps have been taken by them with a view to brining the guilty to book.
