| Kousar Nag resonates in Upper House | | BJP MP seeks immediate revival of pilgrimage | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 5: BJP has raked up banning of Kousar Nag yatra by the Omar Abdullah government in the Upper House of the Parliament and demanded that yatra should start immediately. Taking up the issue in the Rajya Sabha, Avinash Khanna said it was after long that the yatra was being resumed by the Kashmiri Pandits. BJP MP said it could have also revived Kashmiriyat but some people opposing it, gave a call for bandh and it was stopped by the Omar government who succumbed to the pressue of separatist sentiment. BJP has taken up the issue with the Home Minister already. The BJP has been trying to make inroads in the Kashmir valley but it also doesn't want to deviate from its stated position. The yatra is an emotional and religious issue and party knows that it's because of this reason that a section in the Kashmir is opposing it with an eye on the Assembly polls. The party knows that a section of the people in Kashmir, who are hand-in-glove with the ruling dispensation, is deliberately trying to create an atmosphere to recreate the situation of 2008. The party has been for this reason trying to expose and isolate this section of the society by not only being sensitive to the issues of the yatra but also trying to project liberal and secular people in the valley as the real face of the Kashmiriyat. The word Kashmiriyat, has come to define the ethos of the Kashmir, and party is trying to rope in more such faces. The party has already told the Home Minister that a tough message should be given to the people opposing it and it's for this reason that home ministry had taken sought a detailed report from the state government and told them to deal with the people opposing it sternly. |
