MENDHAR, Sept 17 : Adequate relief is yet to reach people affected by recent rains and floods in Mendhar area of Poonch and people there have been forced to live under the open sky. While nearly 350 houses were damaged, partially and fully, in Mendhar, only 138 tents had so far been made available to the people, official sources said. The people, who were yet to get tents, were either living in panchayat ghars and schools or under the open sky. "Since schools are now opened, those staying there are forced to get out of the premises during the day time," the sources added. Sources said Balakote, Sangiot, Mankote, Kalaban, Morha Kallar and some hamlets adjoining them were worst affected by the rains and floods. "What to talk of tents, some people in these areas even don't have food to take," the sources added. The Sangiot-Gali road was also blocked for the past 15 days. The area is also without electricity and drinking water. The locals said it was surprising to note that only BJP MP Jugal Kishore and none other state politician had bothered to visit Mendhar after the devastating rains and floods. |
