Clash at BGSBU over Diwali celebrations | | | Early Times Report Rajouri, Oct 25: There was a clash at Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) here after some hostlers allegedly objected to the celebration of Diwali inside the campus on Thursday last. The matter was, however, said to have been settled by the hostel warden but on Friday morning, the two groups again came face to face while going to their classes. After a verbal duel, they attacked each other physically. As they clashed, some furniture items and window glasses were damaged. A student, whom sources identified as Junaidul Islam of Kashmir, received minor injuries. He was taken to hospital and discharged after first-aid. On getting the information, a police team rushed to BGSBU but the university authorities sent it back, saying that the matter was resolved amicably and a strict action would be taken against the students if any of them was found involved during internal investigation. Sources said the clash occurred after some students from Kashmir objected to the celebrations of Diwali festival. The students of 1st and 3rd semesters of B Tech department were allegedly involved in the fight, the sources informed. The university authorities were maintaining a silence over the issue but sources said that they might take a disciplinary action in this matter on Monday as the university had allegedly become infamous for clashes and other "objectionable" activities.
