Fearing more embarrassment BJP MLAs not dare to drag Omar Abdullah in Court | BJP MLAs had announced to file defamation case against Chief Minister | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 25: Almost four and half months have been passed but the state unit of BJP has failed to fulfil its commitment of initiating legal action against Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for accusing party's MLAs for bartering Jammu's interests for their petty personal gains. On June 17, 2014, BJP MLAs namely Ashok Khajuria, Choudhary Sukhnandan and Choudhary Sham Lal in a joint press conference had announced to drag Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in the Court of Law for tarnishing their image before the public. The MLAs, especially Ashok Khajuria had announced to drag Omar Abdullah in the Court because later had gave a reference of turban to expose BJP MLAs and Khajuria usually spot turban. On June 16, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had accused the BJP of "bartering" away the interests of the Jammu region for its "personal gains". "The Chief Minister's utterances reflected his sheer frustration as his party suffered a humiliating and comprehensive defeat in the recent Lok Sabha elections. It has become a fashion for them (National Conference leaders) to criticise the BJP and its leaders on petty issues. We will drag him to court against his cheap and baseless charges," Ashok Khajuria, leader of the BJP Legislature Party, told reporters on June 17. But threat of Ashok Khajuria remained only on papers and no action has been taken so far in this regard. Credible sources close to BJP MLA revealed that they (MLAs) feared that filing defamation case against Chief Minister would be proved counterproductive because during legal battle they would be again exposed for their misdeeds. Omar, while speaking at a function at Jammu Club on June 16, had launched a veiled attack on Ashok Khajuria by saying, "Pagri pahnane se koi leader nahin ban jata (no one becomes a leader by just wearing a turban)…." He had said this while indirectly referring to Khajuria, who wears a turban. Khajuria along with other MLAs of the party had disrupted the Chief Minister's function in protest against the erratic power supply in the Jammu region. The Chief Minister had also accused the BJP of following "double standard", saying that the saffron party leaders had always sought personal benefits from him and his father Farooq Abdullah. He had accused the BJP state leader Ashok Khajuria of sycophancy. |
