For border dwellers Diwali remains dark, miss usual charm of festivity | | | Early Times Report
KATHUA, Oct 25: The festival of lights may have been celebrated with much enthusiasm across the country but the hundreds of border dwellers, who had to migrate to make shift camps due to Pakistan's unprovoked firing, were unable to celebrate Diwali with usual excitement associated with it. Pakistan's continuous heavy firing forced the border population to put up as migrants in relief camp in Government Higher Secondary School, Hiranagar where they deeply missed the fun and frolic of Diwali festival. Anju Bala, a victim of brder firing and inmate of relief camp told that her entire village has was forced to migrate because of unprovoked shelling from Pakistan side for the last so many days. She told that their children could not celebrate festival of lights because they are not at ease in make shift camp. Tarsem Singh, another border resident told that Pakistan Rangers have indulged in heavy firing and shelling on various border outposts and several villages along the "International Border" in Hiranagar Tehsil which damaged many houses, livestock and forced border population to migrate and stay in relief camps which lack proper facilities. "All of us are in shock and were not in a state of mind to enjoy the festival of lights as we used to be," said Singh. |
