Official spokespersons authorized to articulate Party stand at crucial poll affairs: Azad | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 15: Expressing concern over the tendency of certain party leaders and office bearers to issue statements and speak on sensitive political issues, Leader of Opposition in RajyaSabha Ghulam Nabi Azad reiterated his earlier stand, calling upon all the leaders to speak in one voice. "I have come across statements of many party leaders and PCC office-bearers which are not in line with the stand of the party, and also have the potential of creating confusion in the mind of the public", said Azad adding that such tendency of going out of the way to issue statements is unwarranted and uncalled for. He called upon all the party leaders and workers to maintain unity and refrain from issuing statements on crucial political issues. While emphasizing that the difference of opinion and dialogue are crucial to democratic system, Azad said that it is equally important that such views which are antithetical to discipline or are inconsistent with the party line are not articulated in public. "There are channels and mechanisms available within the Congress Party to ventilate grievances and divergent views, but speaking in the public is not at all advisable and congruous for the party", said Azad. Azad said that only authorized spokespersons of the party must speak on the sensitive political issues and it is their views and statements which will be considered as party's stand. Urging the party cadres and leaders to concentrate on the grass root level with renewed zeal and energy, he said that Congress has an agenda to all three regions of State and there is a need to harness this goodwill to win the confidence of the people.
