Provide relief to flood victims, border migrants as per SC directions: JKNPP | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 15: In the wake of flood disaster followed by the indiscriminate mortar shelling in Samba sector which left thousands of souls marooned and displaced, hundreds of Jammu Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) activists staged a peaceful 'dharna' in front of DC office at Samba. Spearheaded by State President NPP and Ex-MLA Balwant Singh Mankotia along with State President Young Panthers and Ex-MLA Yashpal Kundal, the demonstrators also submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner Mubarak Singh urging him to provide immediate relief to the flood victims and the border migrants who have been facing the wrath of the dual catastrophe since September last year. Mankotia while submitting the memorandum said that the worst ever catastrophic rains which shook the entire State had washed away thousands of lives, crops, livestock and homes leaving scores of people deserted battling for their lives especially in Samba district. He reminded the DC Samba that the previous government had promised to provide free ration to those affected for at least six months but on the ground reality only few families managed to procure the ration for not more than one month adding to the plight of the victims. Yash Pal Kundal urged the DC Samba to provide the relief to the border residents who were forced to flee from their homes due to the indiscriminate firing and mortar shelling from Pakistan as per the directions of the Supreme Court. |
