JU's Youth Festival, evil campaign, painful reality! | | | Syed Junaid Hashmi Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 21: Without any remorse over having failed to even secure third position in around 15 events, euphoria of having secured seven berths in the National Youth Festival to be held in February 2014 in Indore is refusing to die down in Jammu University (JU) campus. Entire university is upbeat over what is being described and presented as historic performance of Jammu University in the recently concluded 30th Inter-University North Zone Youth Festival, a regular feature of Association of Indian Universities (AIU). From Governor N.N. Vohra's office to those who matter in the administration and political set-up, all have been convinced that Jammu University has created history under the stewardship of acting vice-chancellor Prof. R.D. Sharma. And as has been the history, administration as well as Governor's office is convinced that history has been created. Immediate fallout of this historic feat should not be elevation but confirmation of Prof. R.D. Sharma as Vice-Chancellor of Jammu University (JU). And an official handout from Jammu University should say "he deserves this position and has been bestowed with an opportunity of serving the university for next three years." Results of festival, according to the coterie surrounding the acting VC Prof. R.D. Sharma have amazed all and put a slap on the face of Early Times for having, according to them resorted to evil campaign against the University. University has been flaunting this as feat made possible only by the hardwork and resilience of acting VC Prof. R.D. Sharma. 7 spots in the national youth festival which includes a spot in cultural procession is being debated with ferocity. And those desirous of seeing their institution far ahead of all others in the Northern India are being dubbed as evil campaigners by those who were until yesterday calling the acting VC an incompetent and incapable individual. 30th North Zone Youth Festival saw Jammu University securing first position in Western Solo, Western Group Song, Group Song Indian and installation. University stood second in Classical (Solo), Skit and Debate while it bagged third position in Elocution, Poster Making and Folk Dances. University miserably failed to open its counts in 15 others events. Despite being hosts, the performance of Jammu University teams in 15 other events was of ordinary level and gave no indication of professional hands having worked behind the stage. A team which had been chosen to represent JU in the brain storming quiz competition failed to even qualify for the second round. The team seemed out of sync with world around it and miserably failed to respond to questions even of the ordinary level. And counterpart of JU, Kashmir University which had sent the smallest contingent to the festival bagged second spot in the quiz competition. JU team which earned first spot in Group song Indian in the category of music, failed to even open its account in Classical Instrument (Percussion), Classical Instrument (Non-percussion), Light Vocal (Solo) and Folk Orchestra. In the theatrics, in which name of Jammu is taken with respect and honour across the globe, Jammu University despite having an army of cultural incharges managed just a second spot in the Skit. In the Mime, Mimicry and One Act Play events in the category of theatrics; participants from Jammu University seemingly had no idea that they were competing best available talent in North India. While all the other universities kept the audience engaged, the one from university failed to even get appreciation from the crowds. Despite having extraordinary debating talent pool available in the university, JU stood second in debate and third in elocution. Hence, it had to remain content with one post in the National Level Festival in literary category. In the fine arts category, eight events were held. Of these 8, Jammu University (JU) qualified for nationals in the installation event and stood a poor third in the Poster Making Competition. In the rest 6 events, Jammu University failed to make its presence felt and finished poorly. These events included Painting on Spot, Rangoli, Photography, Cartooning, Collage and Clay-modeling. This is despite the fact that Jammu has immense talent in all these categories yet Punjab dominated in all these events. The participants from outside the state won praise both from the judges as well as the locals who had gathered to watch the festival. In the dance category, Jammu despite having performed not exceptionally well was bestowed (Solo) with third spot in the folk dance event. It failed to even make its presence felt in the Classical Dance (Solo). As a kind of consolation and for being hosts, AIU presented Jammu University with second spot in the cultural procession in which University of Kashmir bagged first prize. With 14 prizes, Jammu University was placed third alongwith GNDU, Amritsar which was declared overall champion and Lovely Professional University (LPU) Jallandhar which was runner-up. This is the performance for which university wants one and all to applaud it. |
