Gujjar & Bakarwal hostel in shambles, inmates stage protest against administration | | | Early Times Report Kathua, Feb.06: Inmates of the Gujjar & Bakarwal Hostel Kathua staged protest demonstration against Management of the hostel and shouted slogans against warden for unhygienic condition of the hostel and persistent absence of the warden from the hostel. An emotionally charged Md Asif, an inmate, who has been living in the hostel for 5 years has alleged sub human conditions and starvation in the hostel alleging that the hostel administration was making the inmates starve and serving them stale and meager meals. "Warden is responsible for depilated condition of the hostel," Asif added and alleged that warden occasionally visits in the hostel that affects the working of other staff members too including medical staff. Md. Yasin, another inmate, said inmates timely raise issues before local administration but nobody redresses their grievances. He said the Doctor superficially checks up the ill- inmates and advices single tablet for all diseases which is a joke with the health of the innocent inmates. It is relevant to mention here that hundreds of boys hailing from poor and far-flung areas stay there to get quality education for the upliftment of their community but they suffer a lot due to lack of basic amenities. The hostel is in sordid state and insanitation is threatening the health of the inmates. Murad Ali, another inmate, said frequent curtailment of electricity affects their study and the management does not provide appropriate bedding, winter garments and Urdu teacher for Muslim students. Dr Arvind Kumar Dogra, medical officer in hostel, said he can't provide appropriate medical facility due to lack of funds. He said only Rs 9000/- per annum are being released for medical facility in the hostel that is insufficient and can't meet with the requirement of the inmates. Mustaq Ahmad, Warden of the G&B hostel however flayed all allegations of the inmates against him. He said demands were brought in the notice of local administration and concerned authority but he failed to show any correspondence. He said estimate has been prepared for renovation of building and computer laboratory for funding but no action has been taken till day. He even alleged that government had cut down 50% funds of the hostel resulting into depilated condition of the hostel. He informed that the government released 50% funds in the month of April for year 2014-15 which was insufficient. XEn PWD, Nathyal, one of the care takers of the hostel informed that centre government announced 10 lacs for the renovation of the hostel that is yet to be released. He added that state government released 18 lacs in the year 2009-10 and 15 lacs in 2010-11, Rs 3.5 lacs in 2011-12 and no grant has been released after that for the renovation and proper functioning of the hostel. He said department has prepared estimate of Rs 45 lacs for renovation of computer laboratory but development works could not be taken up due to lack of proper funding. Er. Narinder Singh Bali, ADDC Kathua ensured to visit G&B hostel to review the infrastructure and existing position of the hostel. He said appropriate instructions shall be passed to PHE, PWD, PDD and MC Kathua for providing facilities in the hostel. He also ensured to take serious action against warden id any laxity was found in his duty. Bali said that administration recently released Rs 5.40 lacs to hostel for providing basic amenities to the inmates. |
