Early Times Report

JAMMU, June 11: Poor connectivity and frequent call drops mocks at Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited's (BSNL) slogans 'connecting India'. Large numbers of subscribers of BSNL are feeling cheated as poor connectivity and frequent call drops have disappointed them. However, despite assurance from the BSNL officials, the problems have not been redressed till date. Besides, the BSNL has earned huge money for past many months as subscribers have to make multiple calls. The call doesn't last for more than 10 to 15 seconds because of this call drop the telecom operators are minting undue revenue. A subscriber of BSNL Sunil Sharma, a businessman, conducts much of his business over his mobile phone but for last many months frequent call drops, patchy connections have made life difficult for him. "In fact, the frustrating disruptions on the mobile networks have resulted in a comeback of sorts for landline phones. I have to line up important meetings on the landline as the mobile networks just cannot be trusted for crucial work," Sunil claimed.
Vijay Kumar, subscriber of BSNL said every time his mobile phone rings, he runs out to the balcony to take the call. Frequent call drops, poor voice quality and slow internet speeds are a growing inconvenience for mobile phone users of Jammu province. Most interestingly, the problem becomes worse during adverse weather. A BSNL official said that when the mobile phone came to India as well as J&K, the call quality was good and mobile service quality was better than landlines, and no one was heard about dropped calls. "Now the connections have been reached in millions due to the service also affected and has become poor, "he stated and adding that it will take more time to restore strong connectivity in the state. When contacted CGMT RN Sudhakar, Jammu and Kashmir and GM Jammu Atul Sharma could not be contacted despite repeated attempts.
