Early Times Report
Srinagar, Dec 22: Surprising one and all, a senior PDP leader who in early '90s was affiliated with JKLF on Tuesday said the most wanted Hizb terrorist Burhan Wani who carries a reward of Rs 10 lakh on his head "is a youth icon in Kashmir'.
"Today, Burhan is looked at by the youth as their icon," Peerzada Mansoor, who is political advisor to PDP president Mehbooba Mufti said while addressing a gathering at SK Municipal Park here after Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed inaugurated a flyover construction work near Zero Bridge.
"It was due to your suppression of the youth that Burhan picked up the gun and become youth icon. He could have become Shah Faesal and today would have been Director Education or DC. But he could not as your government had only anti-youth policies," Mansoor said, while referring to former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
He said that Omar Abdullah-led NC-Congress coalition could not connect with the youth in their six-year rule and due to suppression a young man, Burhan, took up the gun. Burhan Wani, most wanted Hizb commander is from Tral area of South Kashmir. He, according to security forces stands involved in many incidents and is playing important role in recruiting youngsters in Kashmir.
According to South Asian terrorism portal, in the month of July this year in an audacious move, Burhan along with 11 young militants, posted their photographs on Facebook. Those in the photograph include ex-Constable of Jammu & Kashmir Police Naseer, who ran away with two AK-47 rifles while on guard duty with Altaf Bukhari, a minister in the Mufti Sayeed-headed Government.
While as in the month of August, HM militant Burhan Wani released a first-ever video message in which he talked about 'jihad' sought support from people. In the five minute 38 second video clip circulated through WhatsApp and other social networking sites, Burhan, asks Kashmiri youth to join militancy, he cautions young boys and girls not to become informers for the Army and Police and tells Police personnel not to harass the family members and stop fighting against them.
According to SATP, Wani played vital role in militant strikes carried out by his militant outfit-Hizbul Majhdeen.
