| DDE faculty duo’s proximity with VC influences decision making | | |

Jammu August 6: Day to day functioning in University of Jammu and Directorate of Distance Education in particular has stooped to a new low with the Vice Chancellor appearing to be under the influence of two permanent faculty members of DDE acting on their advice in certain official matters instead of consulting his team of reliable officials.
Sources informed Early Times that these two faculty members have developed the habit of regularly visiting VC’s chamber to brief him about the day to day happenings in the varsity in general and DDE in particular and share the information with him.
Sources informed that since both these faculty members are habitual of escaping their legitimate duties and are rarely visible in their rooms in the Department due to alleged patronage of higher ups, they wanted to have their blue eyed person adjusted as contractual faculty in the Sociology subject last year but instead some other eligible person was appointed for the said assignment.
They further told that this year also, duo faculty members tried to prevail upon the outgoing Director of DDE to create additional position in Sociology enabling their blue eyed to find place amongst the contractual lecturers. The sources told that former Director refused to budge and decided to go ahead with only one position as the academic work in sociology course passed on smoothly last year with one contractual lecturer only ostensibly clearing the needlessness of additional position sought by these duo to oblige their favourite. The stand taken by the then Director was genuinely correct and in the interest of university which irked the duo, sources told.
It was told that duo then directly approached VC and pleaded his intervention owing to which the latter removed the Director placing another person of his choice as Director DDE so that the things could be put through as per the choice of two faculty members of DDE, sources added. They further told that within days, the incoming Director allegedly asked university authority for one more position of additional hand in sociology subject favouring both faculty members for manipulating appointment of their own favourite.
Sources pointed out that when contractual faculty direly needed for undergraduate courses was not being engaged since last two years by university which involves compulsory PCPs and practicals, the intention of Director DDE to ask for additional hand in sociology course at the instance of duo, where PCPs are optional, speaks enough about involvement of duo teachers to influence both Director DDE and university administration to achieve their ill conceived motive of interfering in the administrative matters for their vested interests.
Sources further informed that the influence enjoyed by these teachers can be measured from the fact that they prevailed upon the incoming Director DDE and managed ouster of teachers incharge of Urdu and Sociology from the Admission Committees of PG courses in DDE for academic session 2016-17 whereas the teachers incharge of other subjects found their names in the admission committees.
Not only this, Early Times is in possession of document which reveals that in the recent order issued on 3-8-2016 , Director DDE framed admission committees for undergraduates in which all the coordinators of B.A., B.Com have been asked to start admission process from their rooms excluding a particular coordinator of B.A. course who is reportedly a straight forward and a very dedicated worker. This order has the express approval of VC which divulges that the university administration is allowing the Director of DDE to function with a tinge of prejudice within faculty members of DDE and playing the dirty politics of discoursing one and encouraging other faculty members, sources rued.
The sources further alleged that these two faculty members have vitiated the congenial atmosphere in campus, particularly in DDE owing to their proximity with the higher authorities in the varsity who still have to learn to remain uninfluenced, impartial and judicious while handling the administrative matters maintaining balance
