Kashmir unrest: 2 more killed in south Kashmir, toll 78

SRINAGAR, Sept 10: The death toll in the more than two month long Kashmir violence reached 78 today after two more youth got killed in the firing of security forces in Shopian and Anantnag districts of South Kashmir. Dozens of persons got injured during the clashes at many places in the valley.
Reports said that a 24 year old youth died after being hit by a tear gas canister in South Kashmir's Shopian district. The youth got killed after clashes erupted between groups of agitating youth and security forces at Tukroo village.
Reports said that security forces used teargas shells to disperse the protesters. One of the teargas shells hit Sayar Ahmad Sheikh on his head. Sayar was rushed to the hospital where he was declared brought dead. Protests broke out in Tukroo and adjacent villages following the killing of Sayar.
In the South Kashmir's Anantnag district a 20 year old youth was killed after security forces fired pellets to disperse the protesters in the Batengo village.
Security forces used teargas canisters and pellets to disperse the youth during which scores of people sustained injuries. Among the injured a youth identified as Yawar Mushtaq Bhat succumbed to his injuries.
Reports said that scores of people were injured after security forces used pellets and teargas canisters during the clashes between youth and security forces at many places in South Kashmir. The clashes broke out at Nasu-Badragund, Hillar-Shahabad, Kokernag, Khur-Batapora and Noorabad.
In the Srinagar district clashes broke out in Chota Bazar, Kani Kadal, Habba Kadal, Rambagh, Magarmal Bagh, Gouripora, Rawalpora, Peerbagh and Humhama areas. Some of the protesters sustained injuries during the clashes that carried for the whole day. In Budgam district clashes erupted between youth and security forces at Razwein and Dardpora villages. Some of the protesters sustained injuries during the clashes.
Reports said that dozens of civilians got injured during the clashes between youth and security forces in the Sopore area of North Kashmir's Baramulla district. In the Bandipora district minor clashes broke out in the Kaloosa area during which security forces used tear smoke shells to disperse the youth. Some of the protesters sustained injuries during the clashes. Clashes also broke out in the Palhallan area with some of the protesters sustained injuries during the clashes.
A statement issued by the Zonal Police Headquarters Kashmir said that six incidents of stone pelting were reported from Anantnag, Kulgam, Sopore, Baramulla and Shopian. The statement said that at these places miscreants assembled on the roads and pelted stones on police and security forces deployments and tried to disturb the movement of the vehicles.
The statement said that at Shopian about 500 miscreants assembled and pelted stones on police and security force deployments at Tukroo. "The police used lathi-charge and fired teargas smoke shells to disperse the violent mob," said the statement adding that one person identified as Sayar Ahmad Sheikh resident of Ganovpora got injured after he was hit by tearsmoke shell. He was shifted to Sub District Hospital Rajpora for treatment where he succumbed to his injuries.
"At Anantnag about 200 miscreants attacked police and security force deployments at Batengoo. While dealing with the situation police used lathi-charge and fired tear gas smoke shells but the miscreants did not yield. While dealing with law and order one person identified as Yawar Mushtaq Dar got injured. He was shifted to hospital for treatment where he succumbed to his injuries," said the statement. The statement said that miscreants also set ablaze Government High School building at Batengoo.
