No probe yet into unlawful construction in State Motor Garage | | | Ishtiyaq Ahmad Early Times Report
Srinagar, Nov 5: The government has so far failed to order a probe in unlawful construction of two huts worth more than Rs 12 lakh in State Motor Garage (SMG) Srinagar. Official sources said the Deputy Director of SMG Kashmir, without any approval from the government, had ordered construction of two huts in front of the office building in Srinagar. Both huts proved huge burden on the financial health of the department. Despite passing of almost three years, the Transport Department has not ordered a probe into the matter. "Though former Transport Minister had assured a probe into the matter, till date no formal orders were issued," sources told Early Times. Sources said that despite having a full-fledged two-storey building for office use, the two huts were constructed without the government's approval. After the 2014 floods, the official building of the department was submerged and then accordingly it was renovated. "The office of the Deputy Director was also renovated, but surprisingly he refused to enter into it and instead gave orders for construction of two huts and then used one of these extravagant huts as his office," sources said. They said that these newly constructed huts have not been mentioned anywhere on the papers. "It seems that misusing his official position the officer got the huts constructed for his own comfort. Their construction was nothing but a total wastage of the money," said sources. |
