New Delhi, Feb 14: Twenty seven year-old Constable Raghunath Ghait, a young lad from Nandura in Mahrasthra who has been hailed as a hero by the force, will get an out of turn promotion. CRPF sentry Raghunath Ghait on Monday subverted a terror attack at Karan Nagar area in Srinagar when he noticed two suspected suicide attackers roaming around the CRPF camp carrying AK-47 guns.
Ghait, who was deployed at the Observation Post sentry, fired at the terrorists and thwarted the attack.
"In principle, we have taken a decision to grant this courageous constable out of turn promotion," Director General (DG) CRPF RR Bhatnagar told India Today. The DG will be writing to Home Ministry to seek sanction for the clearance of the decision. Sources said that the force expects a speedy clearance of the file. A formal announcement would be made once the green signal is granted from the top.
Ghait joined as constable in the force in 2014. In the normal course of promotion, he would have to wait for another 10 years to be a Head Constable. Instead, he will be promoted in short span of four years.
The DG CRPF is scheduled to visit Srinagar on Thursday for a review of the security of CRPF. He will meet CRPF jawans to pat their backs for their bravery.
Sources added that Ghait will get a commendation card for his bravery in a move to boost the morale of the forces in Kashmir Valley.
The force lost CRPF Constable Mohajid Khan, a resident of Ara in Bihar, who fought valiantly blocking the escape route of two terrorists.
The sentry of 23 Battalion CRPF Camp in Karan Nagar will also get the DG commendation card.
