Drug Peddler held with 50 bottles of codeine

Srinagar, Feb 14: Lal Bazar police today claimed to have arrested a drug peddler and recovered 50 bottles of codeine from his possession.
Police spokesman said that today a routine Naka was raised by SHO Police Station Lal Bazar, SI Riyaz Khan under the supervision of SDPO Hazratbal, DySP Rameez Bhat and his team under the supervision of SDPO Hazratbal Srinagar at Gulshan Bagh Lal Bazar.
"During Naka checking one person namely Irfan Rashid Rather of Chanapora Alnoor Colony was stopped for checking, during search 50 bottles of codeine phosphate (banned substance) were recovered from his possession", spokesman adding that the said drug peddler was arrested on spot and codeine bottles were seized.
In this regard a case under FIR No. 13/2018 under section 8/22 NDPS Act has been registered in the police station Lal Bazar and investigation taken up.
The accused is a habitual drug peddler who used to sell these drugs to youngsters and earn illegal profit. With his arrest police has taken a step ahead in curbing the menace of drugs in Srinagar city.
