Repatriated JEs seek help of politicians to 'rule' MVD

Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 15: Junior Engineers (Mechanical) who were deputed as Motor Vehicle Inspectors on deputation with the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) despite being repatriated to their parent departments by the High Court want to work in MVD.
Sources told Early Times these JEs are lobbying hard to get themselves adjusted in the Motor Vehicles Department. "The JEs repatriated by the court are these days hovering around ministers and politicians to get themselves re-adjusted in the MVD," they added.
Insiders revealed that a few politicians are trying to use their influence to get these JEs adjusted.
It may be recalled that Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur and Justice Sanjay Kumar Gupta had dismissed the petition of these JEs in November last year. They had stated that since they are working on deputation in the Motor Vehicles department for a long time now they should be absorbed in the same department.
However, the double bench of Justice Thakur and Justice Gupta rejected the petition. The judges observed that the petitioners (JEs) cannot claim absorption in the Motor Vehicles department as the posts of vehicle inspectors should be filled through direct recruitment.
The order said that the motor vehicle inspectors are to be recruited 100 percent by direct recruitment. "The deputation is permissible only in cases where direct recruits are not available and are to continue 'till they become available," it said.
The order said that this arrangement was taken up to overcome the deficiency caused by the non-availability of motor vehicle inspectors.
The counsel for the state government had submitted before the court that the petitioners have been relieved. However, the petitioners continue to work as motor vehicle inspectors in the Motor Vehicles department even though the qualified people are very much available in the state.
The petitioners in the case were Sunil Cannie, S Sajad Zaheer, Vinod Chalotra, Shammi Kapoor, Param Veer Singh and Zia ullah Wani. All of them were working as JE (Mechanical) in the R&B department before being sent on deputation to the Motor Vehicles department where they are working as motor vehicle inspectors.
