Football in Jammu 2017-18 | | Badrud Duja | 3/24/2018 10:46:13 PM |
| One of the exceptional features of JK state is it's Football producing legs in all of its three regions. Just like Darbar move winter season of football is based in Jammu and summer in Kashmir where Science College Jammu and Polo Ground Srinagar has been the centre of football activities across the year. I have been watching football activities in Jammu from the past 8 years and this winter season of football in Jammu was something to remember for years ahead as Football lovers across JK got to see three major football Gold tournaments such Mufti Syed, Prem Nath Dogra and Maharaja Hari Singh Gold Tournament apart from three other tournaments like Play for Health, Christian Gold Cup and Inter Province League . The biggest achievement was reaching to the finals of 52nd Boys Junior National Championship after 42 years. As resident of JK State my heart fills with joy when I see Kashmiris, Ladakhis and Jammuites all together watching football matches at science college ground Jammu keeping the idea of team spirit alive and building communities together. This striking work of developing the state of football in JK and bringing People of JK region together is because ot the servants of this sport which includes President JKFA Zameer Ahmad Thakur, President DFA Jammu Sheikh Mahmud (Retd IPS) and Vice President JKFA Jammu Ramesh Chandra. These devoted servants of this sport have been contributing immensely to propogate this sport across JK state and in developing the standard of the most popular sport in the world. Credit goes to their dedication towards this game as their organisation setup has conducted six tournaments across Jammu where teams from far from Punjab State also participated. Abdul Rehman Wani hailing from Pulwama District of Kashmir has been in Jammu from the past four years. He is devoted football lover and everyday at 3pm he is on chair watching this popular sport. He says, 'this season was phenomenal as standard of the game has immensely improved also the commentary during match is good step'. Introduction of football commentary has been appreciated all across Jammu as football lovers are identifying players with their names and not with their shirt numbers and Players are gaining more and more popularity among the masses as people know their names. Challanges? As more and more players are selecting this sport, more and more facilities are also required to meet the challanges and expectations of public and players. Taking to Former IPS officer and current DFA Jammu Sheikh Mahmud who on his own organised and financied Prem Nath Dogra,Maharaja Hari Singh Gold Cup said "we need synthetic astro turf football ground for Jammu region as it will protect players from injuries, for survival of football in Jammu, Astro turf football ground is required". Astro turf football grounds are considered the best football grounds because of its twelve months availability. On September 2014 Astro Turf football ground was started in Srinagar, demand for the same in Jammu is justified as football is all season sport so we can't play without astro turf ground. Another challenge for football across JK is financial support, if you compare Cricket and Football Associations with each other you will see a huge partiality between the two as Cricket Association JK has crores of money but mere succeed on the other side Football Association has merely few lakhs but immense success. Unless and until Govt especially Sports Council won't support Football Association well how are we going to produce bright legs like Majeed Kakroo, Arun Malhotra, Mehraj Wadoo,Ramesh Chandra, Farooq Bhat etc. How long will members of Jammu Kashmir Football Association like Sheikh Mahmud finance football activities across Jammu they need timely support from Govt. In present day of life you will hardly find football ardent people like them who are financing football activities out of their own pockets. Football is freedom as Bob Marley said we must support sports especially Football because it's poor man's sport. Lastly catching the legs at school level should be their target as schools produce quality football players but they play football only for Sports Certificate and not for professional football. We have to grab them young, then only JK players will reach to ISL, ONGC Legaue etc.
