| Controversial DE returns to Rajouri, dodges norms for contractors | | | A B Sharma

Rajouri, Mar 24: A Divisional Engineer in the Public Works Department Rajouri has brazenly violated the norms and government orders to help his favourite contractors.
The DE was earlier transferred from Nowshera in 2016 for benefiting contractors by dodging the process of e-tendering. Now, he is back on his 'hot seat', courtesy his political connections.
"The DE enjoys strong political patronage. During the tenure of former PWD minister Altaf Bukhari, he was punished for his nefarious activities and transferred. As Bukhari was replaced in the cabinet reshuffle, the DE returned to his prime posting and has resumed his illegal activities," said a source in Nowshera division.
The DE used to bypass the government norms of moving the works projects through e-tendering and instead has raised a bogey of 'bogus contractors' to whom he gave different works in wake of mighty commissions.
Early Times had reported about his corrupt practices after which a prompt action was taken by the then minister. Bukhari had immediately reacted to the ET story and sought an explanation from the officials after which the DE was attached to Chief Engineer's office, Jammu.
After remaining there in hibernation for 5-6 months, the DE managed his posting in PMGSY, Rajouri where he stayed for some time before joining back at Nowshera recently.
Sources said the DE has resumed his corrupt practices. People and some contractors of the area have appealed the concerned department and ministry to take an action against the DE. |
