Various political, social outfits condemn brutal lathicharge on peaceful Nowshera protesters | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 24: Various political and social outfits have strongly condemned the use of force by the police and brutal lathicharge on peaceful Nowshera protesters today. Questioning the total failure of the government to handle the situation in Nowshera, the Jammu Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) has condemned the government action on agitating people at Nowshera resorting to heavy lathi charge and indiscriminate use of teargas on the peaceful protestors. In a joint statement, JKPCC president GA Mir, senior vice president Sham Lal Sharma, vice president Raman Bhalla and chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma have strongly criticized state government for resorting to lathi charge and teargas with a view to crush the peaceful movement of people as a result several people sustained injuries. They said that it is unfortunate that government has resorted to this kind of action on peaceful protest demonstrators after it failed to open the market and suspend the agitation. National Conference (NC) has also condemned the lathicharge on peaceful Nowshera protesters. NC on Saturday while condemning the police action demanded district status and described the use of force by the police as a tool of the PDP-BJP government to muzzle public voice. "The lathicharge is unacceptable and those responsible for use of excessive force should be sternly dealt with", National Conference leaders said in a joint statement, issued from Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan here this evening. Besides provincial president Jammu Devender Singh Rana, signatories to the joint statement included former ministers Ajay Kumar Sadhotra, Surjeet Singh Slathia, Syed Mushtaq Ahmed Shah Bukhari, State Secretary Rachpal Singh, MLA Javed Rana and provincial president YNC Ajaz Jan. Jammu Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) leaders under the leadership of Prof Bhim Singh, chief patron of the party vehemently condemned police atrocities on peaceful protestors demanding district status in Nowshera today. They demanded judicial inquiry into the police excesses on the innocent public at Nowshera and adjoining places. Sikh organizations have also condemned the use of force by police on peaceful protesters in Nowshera. In a meeting of various Sikh organizations of J&K held under the chairmanship of Sudershan Singh Wazir, chairman Sikh United Front J&K, the participants condemned the lathicharge on the peaceful protesters at Nowshera. Chamber of Commerce & Industry (CCI) Jammu has also condemned the lathicharge in Nowshera during a meeting held at Chamber House here today under the chairmanship of CCI, Jammu president Rakesh Gupta. Chamber appealed to the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to order judicial enquiry into this unfortunate incident. |
