Early Times Report
RAJOURI, Mar 30: Pahari Speaking People and their leaders have expressed their resentment after the Governor sent back the bill providing 3% reservation for the Pahari people reportedly seeking more queries for the second time.
Previous government, according to Shahbaz Khan, executive chairman, J&K Pahari People Movement (JKPPM), in a cabinet meeting had announced 5% reservations for the Pahari people but the bill was sent back by the Governor reportedly seeking more details.
He added recently the Cabinet had approved the J&K Reservation (amendment) bill 18 of 2014 extending 3% reservation to the Paharis and the move was welcomed by all the Pahari speaking community members.
The bill passed in both the houses of the State Legislature and approved by the State Government was sent to Governor recently for approval but the same was again returned that has hurt the sentiments and aspirations of the Pahari community.
Leaders of various Pahari Associations including Sayed Sarfraz Hussain Shah( student leader), Balbir Kumar, Shahbaz Khan, Chief Executive, JKPPM; Mohf Atif, Sahil Kumar, Karan Kumar, Bomeet Singh, Mohf Umer, Advocates Shahid, AQ Khan Mohd Shakeel and Haji Mohd Aslam have expressed their resentment in this matter.
They said that some vested interest have been opposing ST status to the Paharis and are misguiding the higher authorities.
In a meeting held at Rajouri and organized by BGSBU Students Union, Pahari leaders have decided to start struggle for their rights and against those who are opposing ST status for the Paharis.
"If any bill is passed twice in both the Houses of the State Legislature and is approved by the state Cabinet twice, it becomes law automatically," said Shahbaz Khan.
