'30,000 students from Kashmir in Jammu schools, colleges'
One-community Kashmir secular, Jammu, which houses 2 million refugees, communal

Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 30: BJP's Yashwant Sinha and members of his pro-separatist group have insulted the people of Jammu province. On Thursday, they gave the nation to understand that while Kashmir was liberal and secular, Jammu is divided on communal lines and it posed a threat to the state's "pluralistic ethos".
"There is a growing perception in Jammu of a worsening communal divide being promoted by politically ambitious leaders. The attack on the Sunjuwan army camp, and the (alleged) rape and murder of a Bakharwal girl have given rise to the feeling that there is a divide between two regions. Utterances by political leaders are perceived as dividing and alienating people. There had always been a communal divide in Jammu, but earlier, there also used to be frank dialogue and discussions between communities, involving many civil society groups. Today, inter-community dialogue is absent," Yashwant Sinha's team member Sushobha Barve said.
It is a matter of concern that she termed Kashmir "secular and liberal" overlooking the fact that Kashmir had turned almost 100% one-community region. She ignored the fact that leaders in Kashmir were demanding Azadi, Pakistan, self-rule and autonomy; opposing citizenship rights to the refugees from Pakistan, return of internally-displaced Kashmiri Hindus and settling up of a colony in Kashmir for the ex-soldiers belonging to Jammu & Kashmir; supporting the Rohingya-Bangladeshi presence in Jammu; and opposing everything India barring the Indian rupees. She also ignored the fact that it is Kashmir that had been at the helm of affairs in the state and yet creating problem for the nation in the state.
Jammu region is an oasis of peace and communal harmony, where people cutting across party and religious lines, lead a peaceful life. It is Jammu to which the persecuted people always look towards. Thousands of refugees migrated to Jammu from Pakistan to escape the wrath of votaries of two-nation. It was Jammu to which came all others from what is called PoJK in 1947-1948; They didn't go to Kashmir. In fact, Sheikh Abdullah and ilk didn't allow even from Muzaffarabad to settle in Kashmir; he deported them all to Jammu. Besides, it was again Jammu to which came the members of the miniscule minority of Kashmir Hindus in January 1990. All of them and the local population have been living peacefully and it is extremely difficult to distinguish between the refugees and the original inhabitants.
Not only this, even members of the majority community from Kashmir have over the years settled in Jammu and around it and their number now run into lakhs. According to one report, no less than "30,000 students from Kashmir have been admitted to Jammu's schools and colleges" and still Yashwant Sinha and Co condemn people of Jammu as communal.
The BJP needs to rein in Yashwant Sinha. He can't insult the people of Jammu province, who have been sacrificing their all since 1947 in what is called the "national interest". To call them communal would be to provoke them and create conditions leading to the complete decimation of the BJP, which is now in power in the state as a result of the mandate it got from Jammu and not from Kashmir and Ladakh.
