Separatists should have supported ceasefire
5/20/2018 11:04:12 PM
It was expected from the separatists.
Instead of appreciating unilateral ceasefire these separatists have called for start of political process which could ensure peace in Kashmir, that too permanent peace. These separatists have described the unilateral peace process as a farce because the Kashmir issue is neither an economic issue but simply a political problem which needs to be settled through talks. The Joint Resistance leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik have rejected New Delhi's unilateral ceasefire by terming it a "cruel joke and a ploy" to hoodwink public opinion on both national and international level."People of Kashmir want a permanent halt on war that has been waged by India," said a joint statement issued by Geelani, Mirwaiz and Yasin..They termed the ceasefire as "Operation Halt" -- a "ploy" to hoodwink the public opinion on both national and international level.
Geelani, Mirwaiz and Malik held a brief meeting at Geelani's Hyderpora residence and deliberated on various dimensions of the unilateral ceasefire "Operation Halt" announced by Home Ministry."The "Operation Halt" is a cruel joke with freedom loving people of Kashmir, who are engaged in a legitimate movement for right to self-determination. People of Kashmir believe in permanent peace rather than a relaxation in killing for one month. People want a permanent halt on war that has been waged by India," Geelani, Mirwaiz and Malik have stated.."If you want to stop the gun in Kashmir, you have to look at the reason behind it. That reason is Kashmir dispute. What after this one month of ceasefire…what next. You will again start killing Kashmiris using bullets, pellets and chilli powder," the Hurriyat (M) chairman said.
He said Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Pakistan occupied Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan are a disputed state of Jammu and Kashmir. "India and Pakistan have a commitment towards people of J&K. The Right to Self Determination is the internationally accepted resolution to this disputed region". These separatists have stated that if there is gun in Kashmir it is the result of unresolved Kashmir issue. They must realize that the Kashmir issue had been hanging fire since 1947 and till 1989-90 no part of Kashmir had witnessed any gun culture. If the gun has taken place of Kangris and stones and shouts, common way of settling disputes in Kashmir, it is the result of Pakistan backed insurgency right from 1989 which forced over 3.50 lakh Pandits to flee from the valley. And since 1990 there has been no let up to in violence. If the Government of India has declared unilateral ceasefire it is the beginning of the gradual peace process but if the separatists do not support it peace in Kashmir may be in peril.
