Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, May 22: With three Jammu based leaders raising a banner of revolt against their own political parties' stage seems to be set for the constitution of a parallel political outfit at least in the Jammu division of the state.
Chaudhary Lal Singh who represents Basohli in the legislative assembly has been on a war path against his own party Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) in the recent past. Singh has been demanding a probe by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the Rassana rape and murder case. The Rassana rape and murder case has assumed limelight over the past few months.
MLA Basohli and his counterpart from Samba, Chander Prakash Ganga took part in the rally organized by Hindu Ekta Manch (HEM) at Rassana in March. The rally was held in support of the people who have been framed in the rape and murder case. The rally proved costly for both the legislators as both of them were shunted out from the state cabinet.
Ever since his ouster from the government Singh is organizing rallies in support of his demand that Rassana episode should be probed by CBI. He has been maintaining that CBI probe would provide justice to the victim and help in identifying the real culprits. His demand somewhat is not being supported by his colleagues in the party.
Given this situation one cannot rule out the possibility that Singh might form his own party. He may get support from the people who are opining that Jammu region has been discriminated by the present dispensation. However, this won't be easy for Singh since he was part of government not long ago.
Resignation of senior vice president of Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) Sham Lal Sharma might come up as a shot in the arm for MLA Basohli in forming a separate party in the state. Sharma resigned while alleging that Congress especially PCC President Ghulam Ahmad Mir are ignoring the interests of the people of Jammu region.
Since Singh is basically a Congressman it would not be difficult for him to come in contact with Sharma for the formation of a new political outfit in the state that may be expected to serve interests of Jammu people. In other words it can be said that the two politicians may form a political forum which if formed would pose a serious challenge to BJP.
Yet another Jammu leader Vikramdatiya Singh resigned from his party Peoples Democratic Party while citing reasons that PDP-BJP government is keeping the demands of Jammu residents in backburner. Vikramadatiya alleged that the sentiments of Dogras have been badly hurt by the coalition government.
Vikramadatiya who was a member of legislative council resigned from the upper house and also from the party. He resigned as soon as government decided not to declare state holiday on the birthday of Maharaja Hari Singh. Interestingly, this was one of the major demands of BJP before it came to power in Jammu & Kashmir.
With Lal Singh, Sham Lal Sharma and Vikramdatiya Singh launching a tirade against their own political parties there are chances that people of Jammu & Kashmir may witness creation of yet another political outfit. The same may pose a serious challenge to BJP and other Jammu based political parties.
