Early Times Report

Jammu, June 11: In a Public Interest Litigation filed by Advocate Deewakar Sharma seeking direction to JKCA to immediately start the construction of International Stadium at Bajalta Jammu soon after the release of already sanctioned amount of Rs.100.00 Crores, The Division Bench of State High Court Comprising Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur and Justice Sanjay Kumar Gupta after hearing both the sides observed that Sunil Sethi, Sr. advocate appearing on behalf of BCCI submits that the land marked for construction of the International Stadium at Jammu by the Government will be assessed for purposes of feasibility, keeping in view the proximity of the land to the river Tawi and the fact it might be flood prone. Yet, it is submitted that a final decision will be taken by an appropriate team, which is likely to be deputed by the BCCI in that regard. A prayer is made that when the team of the BCCI arrives in Jammu, the Deputy Commissioner, Jammu be directed to depute some officer, who can identify the land in question.
Upon this Division Bench directed that as and when the BCCI team wishes to visit the spot at Jammu, a communication shall he addressed by the competent authority or an officer authorized in that regard to the Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, who shall depute an officer of his choice, for purposes of only identifying the kind on the spot. It will be open to the BCCI to associate JKCA, if they so desire.
In the PIL it has been it has been submitted that eleven years have passed in handing over of above said land and in allotment of Rs.100 crores for construction of International Cricket Stadium at Bajalta, Jammu but till date nothing has been done to start construction work due to which the State of J&K especially Jammu has suffered huge loss in Sports Tourism as well as in other financial benefits which the State of J&K could have earned after the completion of above state International Cricket Stadium.
